Puc Nursing Requirements

The Department of Nursing and Health Sciences is the largest department of the PUC and is known for training competent, caring and experienced professionals in the fields of nursing, paramedic services and emergency services. Students have access to Northern California`s leading health care hospitals with clinical experience in facilities in Napa, Solano, Sonoma, and Lake counties. Armed with the skills and knowledge to care for those in need, there are many rewarding options for students interested in these fields of study. Pacific Union College`s outstanding nursing program is rewarded with an increase in student numbers. PUC recently received accolades and an additional 5 years of approval for its accreditation by the Board of Registered Nursing. This recognition has also allowed the college to welcome more nursing students. Pacific Union College is a leader in nursing education, and our graduates have a well-known reputation for excellence. This online program in California and Hawaii takes you from a staff member to a bachelor`s degree in nursing, with internships at a location near you. PUC has reached another top ranking! Gradreports ranked PUC among the top 25 colleges offering a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, based on median salary one year after graduation. The schools on the list have median starting salaries ranging from $89,400 to $110,300. The pre-nurse major focuses on the mandatory and related courses required for admission to the AS nursing program at PUC. Pre-nursing provides students with the opportunity to build a solid foundation of knowledge in human biology, social sciences, and other essential areas that enable them to succeed in the AS nursing program. The AS Diploma in Nursing is the first step in a two-step path to earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and is part of the PUC nursing program that prepares graduates for the Registered Nurse Licensing Examination (NCLEX).

After obtaining the AS degree in Nursing, graduates can then refer directly to the BSN. On the Angwin campus, the AS study program takes place over six terms (two years). Students who are already LVN or Med Techs may want to pursue their AS degree in nursing through the LVN to RN program on the Napa campus. The LVN curriculum at RN AS is offered in a non-traditional core week format designed for practising healthcare professionals. We offer an LVN to RN program at our Napa campus in a non-traditional core week format designed for practicing healthcare professionals. Call (707) 965-7262 for more information. For more information, contact Sandra Ringer, sringer@puc.edu. The RN-BSN program is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Nursing Education, INC. (ACEN).

The BS in Emergency Services, Paramedic is a unique hybrid program that allows students to complete three years at PUC in the Emergency Services program and then complete their paramedic training in an accredited program (CAAHEP) to receive their bachelor`s degree in PUC. The Institute of Medicine has set a goal for 80% of U.S. nurses to prepare for a BSN by 2020. Already in the San Francisco Bay Area, a number of institutions and organizations are only accepting applications from new nurses with BSN degrees.
