Zhaw School of Management and Law Ranking
The ZHAW School of Management and Law (SML) has been included for the first time in the Financial Times ranking «European Business Schools». It is one of five Swiss educational institutions on the list and the only Swiss university of applied sciences. The reason why the MSc programme was included in this year`s global FT Masters in Management list, which ranks 64th, is its special programme. The structure of the programme reflects the international environment that graduates will encounter in their future professional careers. Students themselves are a heterogeneous group of people of different nationalities. The language of instruction is English. «We are very pleased with this inclusion in the ranking,» says SML Dean Professor Reto Steiner. «We see this as a recognition of the high quality of our science-based and at the same time practice-oriented continuing education and training programs, as well as the result of our research activities and close collaboration with industry and science partners. This award is another important milestone for our university. The ZHAW School of Management and Law was included in the ranking of the world`s top master`s programs for the first time and immediately reached 64th place.
The ZHAW School of Management and Law even took first place in the «value for money» sub-category. An important quality characteristic of a university is the confirmation of its performance by independent external organizations. International rankings also offer a great opportunity to compete with the world`s top universities. With around 9,500 students, the ZHAW School of Management and Law (SML) is one of the largest business schools in Switzerland. It is currently the only business school of a Swiss university of applied sciences that is represented in the famous ranking of the Financial Times. The fundamental principle of SML is «Building Competence. Crossing Borders. and provides students with high-quality educational programs that reflect the institution`s global mindset.
«With this ranking of the world`s best master`s programs for future managers and management specialists, ZHAW is implementing its strategy of positioning itself as the first Swiss university of international stature, both in its academic programs and in business and management research,» says Reto Steiner, Dean of the ZHAW School of Management and Law, who rejoices at this news. «We worked hard to reach this ranking. The fact that we have now been accepted confirms that we offer high-quality training for specialists and managers,» says Petra Barthelmess, Programme Manager. «The program is an intensive and rigorous program of study that prepares students for careers as international managers. But the effort is worth it: the career prospects are excellent. This high level of quality is sought from the outset in a strict selection process and has a high priority. «In order to ensure a high level of professional competence, all students must have a good bachelor`s degree in business administration and pass an admission test,» Barthelmess explains. This award is due to the school`s «Master in International Business» program. In Switzerland, only ZHAW and the universities of St. Gallen and Lausanne are represented in the ranking of the best master`s programmes in management in the world.
This is a unique selling point for the ZHAW in the Zurich metropolitan area. Jürg Hostettler, ZHAW School of Management and Law, Head of Communications, telephone 058 934 66 63, email: juerg.hostettler@zhaw.ch A key admission criterion is feedback from graduates who assess the quality of study programmes and their importance as preparation for a professional career. Ninety European universities were included in the ranking. Universities are professional organizations. Experts focus mainly on their area of expertise and act within their scientific communities. These scientific networks have specific and established mechanisms to assess and recognise performance and quality. This makes it an authoritative frame of reference for research and teaching in a university. Quality at SML is not only ensured by individuals, but also in an organizational context. Parameters, resources and infrastructure, leadership culture and regulatory processes determine the opportunities and limitations of action and thus influence the quality of all services provided at the university. For this reason, not only teaching, research, training and services are subject to quality assurance and development, but also to governance and resources. Quality Management at SML brings together the various decentralized quality development efforts and aligns them with the university`s goals. The Quality Management Unit develops and implements appropriate instruments for this purpose and supports departments in their quality assurance and development.
Through participatory processes and quality discourse, the staff unit encourages the widest possible support for development. Various platforms, contact persons and committees allow all members of the SML to get involved, have their voices heard and participate in academic development and quality discourse. Prof. Dr. Petra Youngzie Barthelmess, ZHAW School of Management and Law, Head of the International Business Teaching Department, telephone 058 934 68 94, email: petra.barthelmess@zhaw.ch Since 2015, SML is proud to be accredited by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
