Terra Mystica Auction Rules
What troubles me is how to assess the existence or non-existence of races on adjacent land. If mermaids and engineers are in a game, does that make the 15-point witches less valuable than usual? 10? 5? Perhaps witches are a bad example, as they have the ability to fly away. What if you had an adjacent type of land all to yourself in a 5-player game? +10? There should be something systematic here, but I couldn`t find any data on that. Can I transform a land space that is already my home area? When I have a shovel, the rules say I can`t use it to transform. Instead, I get a power token. Can I still transform with my ability (by removing Power Tokens)? And can I still build? In addition to the theme of timing (cf. Question above) I found a small discrepancy between Juho`s moderator and the official rules! No, the side of the token is fixed, so the number of factions is auctioned by the number of players. (You choose a faction, not a faction token.) (Source) No. As you transform, you can go through the transformation cycle in both directions and not necessarily take the short path to your original terrain type. You cannot change direction in an action, so the maximum conversion rate in an action is 6. However, you need to stop transforming when you reach your original terrain.
(source, source, source, source) Can the winner of an auction immediately select a bonus card? If you use these free spades to transform on the shortest path to your home land in the transformation cycle, you can also spend workers (based on the current exchange rate) to further transform the terrain space. (Source) Yes, but only if it`s your home at the beginning of your tour. In this case, you can transform it a maximum of 6 times. (Source) No. You cannot apply unused free spades to another area of land unless you actually convert the original (selected) field area to the original terrain. This means that you can never build on a land space that you haven`t transformed in the same action, unless you`re just building. (source, source) If I am a Riverwalker (of Fire & Ice) and I have no priests in my supply and I get two priests as income, can I first unlock a piece of land and thus get a priest from my stock, and then get that priest from the stock as a second priestly income? Yes. On terra.snellman.net, you are not playing «Terra Mystica as defined in the Official Rules», but «Terra Mystica as defined by Juho`s moderator software». Some game administrators are interested in reducing minor discrepancies and undoing actions that the moderator allows, but cannot be performed according to the official rules.
Others believe that «if the moderator allows it, you can do it.» Tournament games do not have an administrator and therefore return to the second default approach. Yes. You can gain energy when someone builds an apartment or upgrades a structure next to you (right next to your structures). The rules say this happens in action #1 and action #4, but it can also happen in other actions, such as when a player uses a special action to build or improve alongside you. (Source) No, the winner chooses a faction and a starting position. When the auction is over and everyone has a faction and starting position, follow the normal rules to place the first structures and choose the bonus cards. (Source) No, the priest will be removed from your field bike and returned to your supply. If, instead, you choose to extract the priest from your reserve (without unlocking any land), you will receive the priest as usual and can use it as a resource later. (Source) This FAQ contains two types of information: Chapters 1 through 7 answer common questions about Terra Mystica rules.
If a rule is ambiguous or absent from the rulebook, the sources of contributions by Helge Ostertag, Jens Drögemüller (the designers), Frank Heeren (the editor) or Grzegorz Kobiela (the rulebook translator) are given. Chapter 8 is dedicated to Terra Mystica online. I`m curious if any of you who play Terra Mystica with faction bidding have any rules of thumb for calculating these numbers (or even better, a link to the dates somewhere I missed). Special actions can be performed from two of the bonus tiles («Spade and 2 Coins», «Cult Stage and 4 Pieces»), one of the Preference tiles («2 Waters») and the fortresses of certain factions (Auras, Chaos Mages, Giants, Nomads, Swarms, Witches). Special promotions are free; After taking one, simply cover it with an action token. You must not perform a special action without being able to perform the effect, and you must perform the effect as soon as you perform it. (Source) (This is different from actions of power, see above.) For example, the special action of the Spade Bonus tile can only be performed if you are able to terraform a field space. And then you have to terraform.
If I have a priest and I decide to unlock a piece of land, can I keep that priest? Can I select a field area that is already my original land, not use free spades, and then apply the unused free spades to another field area? This way I was able to build on the original land space. Yes, there is an official board with varying starting victory points, depending on the faction. So far, there is only one table of this type, which is intended for games on the base map. Starting victory points (which in normal rules are 20 for each faction) range from 15 (for darklings) to 33 (for fakirs). The full table can be found here: Source. There is a thread about BGG here. However, the chances that you`ve found an issue that no one has reported before are very low, so before you post, make sure your understanding of the rules is actually correct, while Love`s implementation got it wrong. If you`re building as a Riverwalker, the immediate neighborhood doesn`t matter. You must use shipping to create. This means that you can only build on parts accessible from one of your structures by shipment.
However, these rooms can still be directly adjacent to one of your structures. The founding cities and the final ranking always follow the normal rules. If you visited the terra.snellman.net/usage/ help page and couldn`t find your answer, you can access the BGG thread here. If I win a bid and select a faction token, can I choose which side of the token should my faction be? If you use these free spades to turn the land space into the original land without spending any workers, you can apply unused free spades on an additional plot area. If you have spades left after also turning this land space into the original terrain, you can do it again (currently only possible with the 3-spade capacity of halflings). You can build an apartment on one of these rooms. (source, source) Can I convert my complex or land into something other than my original land? You can only convert or build a land space that is directly or indirectly adjacent to one of your structures, and usually a single land space. Either transform the space, build an apartment on it, or do both. You don`t need to turn it into land in your home, but it does need to be your original land before you can build on it. (Source – thumb by Designer) The rules for variable factions (of Fire & Ice) have been updated.
(Source) No. The Giants` playing mat only shows that they can use two pikes to turn any of the other types of field into their home field. They have no other means of transforming. Yes, if a city is founded by taking this tile, you will immediately receive the key and can use it to reach 10 on fire worship with the influence of 2 fires. (Source) I reached number 10 of a cult track that requires a key (city tile). If I go back down because of my abilities, how can I use the key? Direct Adjacent: Adjacent Witches as well as Witches connected by a bridge. Can I tunnel or fly multiple times when I perform the Transform and Build action? Can I spend workers on extra spades? Can I build an apartment? When performing a power action, you need to spend the appropriate number of power tokens, but you don`t have to take the resources (bridge/priest/worker/coins/spades). This means that you can perform a feeding action even if you cannot take the resource. (Source) (This is different from special promotions, see below.) You can play it on www.yucata.de/ guest accounts that are valid for 24 hours, you can sign up for free.
In this case, you can not find this city with the ability of sirens. (Source) No, you can`t do anything else if you get a shovel. You will only receive one Power Token. The same goes for the other volcanic fraction, the acolytes: if they get a shovel, they only have one step on a cult track. (Source) Can I mark for the largest area with a structure group and select another cluster for the final Score tile? No, if you are unable to get all the power, you only have to pay VP for what you earn. In this case, 1 VP. (If none of the opponents could take power, you gain nothing. Source) The rules say that I can advance on a cult track if an opponent takes power because of my «construction activity». Does this also apply if I improve the structures? If I get more power than I can (because it`s all in bowl III), can I convert the power into workers/priests/coins in the middle so that the surplus is not lost? What if I gain more power than I can and it`s not my turn? Where can I play Terra Mystica online against computer opponents? This, as written, results in the Spade Scoring tile having a 12.5% lower probability of appearing in a game than any other tile.
